We can create more working space in your factory, office, warehouse or industrial unit or retail store, just when you thought you were up to your limit. A mezzanine floor can provide extra space for working or storage. By exploiting and maximising your premises’ volume, instead of its floor area, we can create for you extra storage or office space, almost in an instant. Mezzanine flooring is quick to install with minimum of disruption, our free-standing mezzanine platforms can also be dismantled and relocated if required. All of our mezzanine floor installations are compliant with the relevant Building Regulations, British Standards, Fire and Local Authority Regulations.
We can install mezzanine floors in factories, industrial units, shopping centres, and sports centres, as well as office buildings, hotels, government buildings, restaurants, airports, concert halls, museums, clinics – spaces of all kinds, for all sorts of uses.
In most cases, our mezzanine floors are designed as free-standing platforms and are generally constructed from cold rolled galvanised secondary floor beams inset into the main universal beams, which are in turn supported by rolled hollow section steel columns.
The mezzanine floor structure can be topped with a number of materials according to usage and regulations, including high-density particle board, non-slip, moisture resistant or heavy duty flooring.
We will visit and perform a site survey at your premises so that we can design an optimum and bespoke mezzanine floor solution – on time and within budget - that is perfect for the space available and the use to which you wish to put it. We will work out the loading based on British Standard load tables, and customer requirements, ensuring that the capacity of the structure will be sufficient to take the loads required for supporting uses such as machinery, storage, office use e.t.c. You will have the option to make changes in your mezzanine design within 2 weeks, however this may result in a delay in your installation, and may incur additional costs.
In most cases you will not need Planning Permission, if it is a fully demountable structure and the changes are internal. The Government, has however been trying to control the expansion of retail space in out-of-town developments and has brought in legislation which requires planning permission for floors greater than 200 sq.m. You can however add multiple floors less than 200 sq.m without requiring planning permission
Extra space can save the cost of relocation and maximise working areas. We use CAD technology to produce detailed drawings and structural calculations to optimise the use of space, and every installation is supervised by our project managers. We can design a Mezzanine Floor solution that utilises the minimum number of column uprights. You are not limited to one level of mezzanine, and can have multiple levels if required.
The area where the mezzanine floor is to be situated, will need to be cordoned off whilst installation is taking place for obvious health and safety reasons. The area will need to be as clear as possible, and provide our installation team with unrestricted access to the area, with utilities and services available (electricity and lighting ), so that your mezzanine floor can be installed safely We will create a new business environment with a minimum of fuss and disruption, without interrupting your workflow. We are able to undertake complete installations of Mezzanine flooring projects including stairways, handrails, pallet gates, cat ladders and wear plates.
We will work closely with your Local Authority to ensure that your project meets all required local authority approval and complies fully with building and fire regulations. Mezzanine floors will in most cases require a smoke detection system and emergency lighting. Customers typically employ their own local qualified electrician, but First Floors can provide these additional items as a complete turn-key solution
